OUTBREAK: ZERO is a semi post-apocalyptic pandemic roleplay set in the fictional city of Lethford, USA. Current season: Winter, 20/21.
March 2020. The world is in pandemonium as one month ago, GHNv-20 was confirmed, five months after the beginning of norovirus season. The number of the infected are in the higher hundred thousands, and the death toll is at an estimated 250,000, with about seventy percent of the rest of the population experiencing mild to moderate illnesses connected to the S. pyogenes bacteria.
The fear of the unknown has caused mass hysteria and panic.
In an attempt to provide a semblance of safety and control, military personnel patrol the streets, even here in Lethford City, and the police force is trying to keep up with the rising street violence, assault, and theft.
Welcome to OUTBREAK: zero. Will you survive?

a sudden occurrence of something unwelcome, such as war or disease. number, no quantity or number; nought; the figure 0.
She was glad that she took the lead, because those words combined with the little wink he sent her way made her grin broadly, and she was able to hide most of it as she moved. Only, it wasn’t but a couple moments before he was moving in front of her and then stooping down. Ezra hesitated, raising her brows at him. A piggy back ride? Did he really think that she was that silly?
Well...he wasn’t wrong. Ezra felt her cheeks hurt as the grin formed on her face again, tilting her head back to laugh before she stepped forward, resting her hands on his shoulders and lifting one leg after the other, only pausing long enough to allow him to grip her. As soon as he would start to stand, she’d lean up against his back and wrap her arms loosely around his throat, resting her chin on his shoulder, still smiling from ear to ear. ”You better not drop me. Who knows what injuries I’ll sustain at this height.” She teased, her voice pitched low and right in his ear.
Jasper couldn't help but chuckle as she started to climb onto his back, his hands gripping under her knees to help support her weight as he stood up. Her chin perched on his shoulder, making him playfully nudge his head into hers. He rather liked this. It was playful and fun and brought her to him. She couldn't run off and find trouble like this. Even if he knew it was only going to be a temporary thing. He'd still take it. He gave her a small squeeze against him before he chuckled at her words.
He playfully jumped just a little, enough to rattle her from his back but not enough for her to fall off. If anything, he expected her to wrap around him more tightly. "Well its a good thing I have some more super glue at home for you. I'll put you back together." He teased her before he started moving them through the haunted rooms. He held her close, and made it through the rooms with ease. His long strides meant that he didn't have to linger long before they reached the end. The door they stood in front of had a thumping beat coming from the other side. He slowly released her so she could slide down his back, bending just a bit to help her out. "Ready?"
Ezra wasn’t expecting to enjoy being given a piggy-back ride so much, but the little thrill that went through her as he stood to his full height told her she was definitely enjoying it. Her heart leapt right up into her throat as he jostled her, her immediate response to be tightening her leg-hold on him, doing her best to not choke him. ”Oh yes, super glue. The duct tape of the DIY medical field.” She teased, laughing as she did so.
Of course, the ride didn’t last for nearly long enough - but she couldn’t help but feel a swell of gratitude that he was so in tune to her needs without her having to feel vulnerable and spell it out. Ezra did her best not to draw conclusions, to not ruin the mood with her constant black and white emotions. She slid from his back unceremoniously, not exactly shy that her entire body was slithering along his as she did so. ”Born ready.” She replied brazenly, throwing him that signature grin she so often had painted across her features before pulling the door open, immediately assaulted by flashing lights and blaring music. There wasn’t a whole lot of walking room, as sea of bodies stretched out as far as one could see inside the warehouse. Everyone was in some sort of costume. Honestly, it was a little impressive. She kind of wished she’d brought a camera to take pictures, but she’d figured she’d piss someone off if she did.
Spinning around to look at Jasper, Ezra tried not to look overly excited. She was supposed to be on the clock, after all. ”How are your dancing skills?” She asked, sizing him up.
His chuckle was lost as the sound of the actual party washed over them as she opened the door. Jasper looked around at all the flashing flights, the masks and costumes that were dancing around. He spotted a drink table as well as several... were those game stations? He hoped that bobbing for apples wasn't one of them. That sounded like a pool of virus water if you asked him. His hand reached out to lightly touch Ezra's back, as if to say that he was there and hadn't lost her as they moved into the crowded area. His eyes flashing down to her as she asked if he was any good at dancing. "Only if you want to be stepped on the whole time." He told her, giving her a half grin as he nodded towards the beverage station.
"How about I grab us a drink?" He offered. He knew that she was hear to do a job. What job, was beyond him, but he was going to make sure she stayed safe. Hopefully. He was a head taller than everyone else, easily. So he should be able to spot her with ease right? "Just don't get into any trouble before I get back." He teased, and then made his way over to the drinks. He made sure to check brands and seals before he selected something. Not wanting to risk either one of them for some already idiotic idea of a party. For halloween. During a pandemic. With a deadly virus. Who in their right mind....
Ezra grinned at him as he responded to her question, chuckling to herself. She was a little surprised when he offered to go get them drinks - not because it was nice of him, but because he was willingly choosing to split off from her. She raised her brows at him, tilting her head slightly. ”Mmm. I dunno, sounds risky.” She teased, rolling her eyes at his warning. ”Yeah, yeah.” Watching him disappear into the crowd took much longer than it might’ve for a regular person - but Jasper was the tallest in their immediate area, and she had eyes on him for much longer, before she finally lost sight of him.
As soon as he was out of sight, she glanced around curiously, observing all the costumed bodies around her. Again she wished for a camera, just to snap a few decent pictures of the party. Instead her gaze found a few people not in costume - just a group of three men, wearing regular street clothes. They didn’t appear to be partaking in the festivities, either. Brows drawing down in curiosity, she glanced back towards where Jasper had disappeared, feeling nerves rise in her as she didn’t see him. Glancing back towards the plain-clothed men, she knew she had to make a choice. Biting her lip, knowing Jasper would likely be quite mad, she glanced down at her phone. Perfect. She shot him a text, so he wouldn’t think she’d been kidnapped, and then stuffed the phone back in her pocket before taking off after the men, into the crowd of bodies.
The men led her to a dead end - disappearing into a door that turned out to be locked, and she didn’t have any kind of lockpicking kit. Sighing, she turned back to the crowd and realized she was completely turned around. Grabbing a drink off a passing tray, she drank it down quickly, easing her frustration and a bit surprised at how strong it was. Stepping back into the crowd, she decided she’d make her way through in hopes of catching sight of Jasper, every so often grabbing another drink. It was a party, right?
