OUTBREAK: ZERO is a semi post-apocalyptic pandemic roleplay set in the fictional city of Lethford, USA. Current season: Winter, 20/21.
March 2020. The world is in pandemonium as one month ago, GHNv-20 was confirmed, five months after the beginning of norovirus season. The number of the infected are in the higher hundred thousands, and the death toll is at an estimated 250,000, with about seventy percent of the rest of the population experiencing mild to moderate illnesses connected to the S. pyogenes bacteria.
The fear of the unknown has caused mass hysteria and panic.
In an attempt to provide a semblance of safety and control, military personnel patrol the streets, even here in Lethford City, and the police force is trying to keep up with the rising street violence, assault, and theft.

The buzz of city hall's office wing was like a shaken wasp's nest, swarming with suits and weaving bodies, officers and medical personnel and relief works and military. Harper was a single lonely drone caught in the chaos of it all and yet she wading through the every frantic space with apathy and calmness of a machine. She'd been working this way for months, been honing this edge for years. Panic did nothing for anyone, she needed to keep her head down and focus on how she could help.
She gave nothing more than a passing nod to the police captain and his ancillary units that she'd been in meeting with, practically flying out the door to the conference room. Today was heavily booked, even moreso than normal, but the end was in sight. A final meaning, one, thankfully, in the comfort of the little office they'd graciously carved out for her. She was one of the few lucky enough to get her own. Her department was conducting supply triage evaluations, they needed to start prioritizing what was most important as supplies continued to dwindle. She had spoken with the law enforcement, EMS, and the fire department already, but she hadn't consulted with anyone specifically concerning GHNv-20, and that was really the most critical piece of it all to get right. Things would continue to worsen no matter what they did unless they stemmed the spread.
She was set to meet with one of the agency's most critical consultants, an epidemiologist, a competent one at that. 'One of the good one's' She'd been assured in hushed tones over phone calls with her inner circle of those left in bureau who felt they still put the people first. Darcy Ashcroft, she was sure they'd spoken over email before, or atleast, seen her name on the forward list. They all blended together, faces and names which came and went, everyone too scattered to really form a cohesive sense of community. She was looking forward to meeting her in person, and perhaps moreso, reaching the end of a long day.
She straightened her suit jacket and the sleek black tight which had hung loose around her neck from a long day. Presentation remainedimportant to Harper even in dire circumstances. She fell into the office chair of her cramped little space and moved stacks of manila folders and scattered papers to clear room for her honored guest to see across the table, turning to the little brewing pot she kept on a shelf, another comfort of her own resourcefulness. She didn't know anyone to pass up a cup of coffee or tea these days. It was a simple comfort.
Her eyes flicked to the time read out on the dusty old monitor which sat at the edge of her desk, meeting time was fast approaching, her eyes flicked to the door as her hands folded flat on the desk top, awaiting the arrival of her critical guest.
