Brynlee had enough of the waiting. If there was one thing that wasn't being taken from her, it was halloween! Her favorite holiday of the year! One where you could dress up, eat a ton of candy, scare friends, and drinks all the booze that you could want until you passed out in a ridiculously cute outfit. Something that she missed doing in her bartending and college days. And you know what? With a red mask that had white polkadots on, and an actual medical grade one under it, she felt that she was safe enough. She would use the hand sanitizer in her pocket to keep hands clean. And she'd shower as soon as she got home.
Which is why Brynlee found herself startled and running her way through the haunted house that was set up. Small shrieks of fear left her when things popped up or jumped around corners, followed by nervous laughter as she pushed her way further into the haunted house. By the time she burst through the door that was claiming to be the exit, she found herself is a large party space. People already dancing around and having clearly a good time. It was probably only a few hours past curfew, but she simply lit up at the fact that for the first time in a long time, she was about to dance her rear off. She was going to drink, be merry, and flirt her way with some other party goer who gave her a thrill and a chance. Or she was going to have a blast raiding the candy bar with someone.
Eloise had worked a double shift the days before Halloween, so she felt justified when she threw on her costume, added an eye patch and a pirate's hat, and went out to attend a secret, fully illegal, Halloween party. The haunted house had been everything she expected, just the right amount of exciting and terrifying, and then she'd gotten into the actual party. She'd yet to spot any familiar faces, but Eloise was used to creating her own fun. She got herself a drink and danced with randoms until she spotted a eerily familiar face - even with the mask, Eloise could spot her sister from a mile away.
"BRYN!" Eloise squealed, though she had doubts her sister heard her over the music. She shouldered her way through the crowd, giddily rushing up to her sister. Making a hook with her finger, Eloise beamed. "Arr!" She threw her arms over her sister's shoulders, hugging her tight for a split second before breaking away with a 'whoops' smile. "Sorry, I forgot, pandemic. But you're here! Do you want a drink?" She gestured with the cup in her hand, raising her brows - despite the eye patch - questioningly.
Brynlee was barely inside the door when a random face appeared in her sight. Yelling a pirate 'arr!' at her, which made a small smile appear on her face. Only for that said smile to grow brighter as she realized who that little red head was in front of her. "Ellie!" She yelled over the music, her arms tightening around her little sister and laughed as she pulled back and spoke about the pandemic. She waved her hand in the air. There was a reason she made sure to wear a mask out to this event. Just in case. As an extra precaution.
"Of course I am here! But I am surprised to see you here!" She laughed. The two were close, but ever since the pandemic started they had seen each other less. Bryn was definitely the closest with their eldest brother but that didn't mean she didn't love Ellie just as much. She grabbed her sisters arm and tugged her towards the drink tables. She was going to find herself a can of something before she was going to find someone to dance with. "How's it been?!" She asked as they made it towards the drink station.
Eloise was generally a loud and happy person, but when she got around her sister those aspects of her personality were only stronger, mirroring her sister’s energy and adding it to her already chaotic self. ”I wasn’t going to miss a spooky party because of the pandemic. I’m at risk all the time as it is.” Eloise responded, her tone flippant. Of course she was as careful as she could be, despite the lack of a mask - she wore one too often these days, so wearing it outside of work when she was already breaking the law just didn’t really make sense to her. She did have a tiny bottle of hand sanitizer in one of the hidden pockets in her outfit, though.
She let her sister pull her towards the drink station, taking in all the options as they stood there. Giving Brynlee a little shrug in response to her question, she sighed. ”We haven’t been allowed to hold the babies since all this started. It’s excruciating. Otherwise I’ve just been working. A lot.” She whined, frowning softly before her expression lit up. ”But that’s okay, I’m loads happier than I would be working in any other department. What about you?” She asked, reaching out to grab a glass of a bright green drink. It almost glowed in the many different lights. ”Oooh, pretty.” Eloise commented, taking a drink and scrunching her face, lips puckering slightly. ”Jesus, it’s sour!”
Brynlee couldn't stop the laughter that came from her at her sisters toss back. Of course the two of them were high risk. "That possibly makes us the stupidest people at this party then! To increase our chances. And yet we are probably amongst the most educated." She couldn't help but tease her little sister. Though she was glad that she had at least thought to wear a mask herself. She was about the only person in the hospital who could fix most of the things there.
Bryn gave a small chuckle as her sister complained. "Thats the whole benefit of your job. The babies!" She laughed. She was sure that would have made her possibly want children. But that was not something she currently wanted. They were awfully cute to walk by the ward and see them all. But she was happy to have them at a distant and not one of her own that she had to worry about during these times. That had to be a lot for any parent to try and deal with at this time. "Well, trying to not kick other doctor's asses is a daily thing now. I am helping them, way outside of my scope of support. And they have the audacity to give me attitude. Lets see how fast I get around to them when they break their equipment next time." She scoffed. And then started laughing as Ellie drank her drink.
"Well... it's green. So sour apple?" She laughed, grabbing a can of beer for herself. She was going to take it easy but have fun.
Eloise gave an unbothered shrug at Brynlee declaring them the two most stupid people at the party. She figured if she was already at high risk, why not have fun? She could catch the sickness tomorrow, and then she’d be really mad she skipped the Halloween party. ”Sometimes it’s more fun to be stupid.” She sighed, her expression one of mock exhaustion. ”That’s the benefit of being the baby. I’m not sure what your excuse is.” Eloise teased, flashing her sister a broad grin.
As her sister mentioned the babies being the entire benefit of her job, Eloise’s expression turned into one of exaggerated drama. ”I know! It’s torture! And I feel so bad for the new moms in all this.” Eloise sighed. Brynlee started filling her in on how her job was doing, and Eloise made a sympathetic expression of disgust and rolled her eyes. ”And there’s always a next time, right? Well they’re just lucky we care about the patients. If we didn’t, I’d tell you to break their stuff yourself. Then drag your feet.” Eloise’s expression was wicked, her tone absolutely truthful. If doing something like that didn’t cause issue with patients, she most certainly would mess with the doctors. They almost always had inflated egos, even those that worked in the maternity ward with her.
Still making that puckered face, Eloise quickly downed the rest of the drink - not wanting to waste anything - before throwing the plastic cup away. Stomping her feet quickly, shaking her head like it might dispel the sourness, she reached out and grabbed her own can of beer, popping the tab and taking a large gulp. The beer wasn’t that much better - it certainly wasn’t her drink of choice - but it at least eased the tension in her jaw. ”I like sour apple. That was like someone made a drink with a bunch of warheads.” She complained, pouting over at her sister.
