[attr="class","CONTENT"] Roman finished changing into his costume for the bust. He wasn't in on the plans until just a couple of hours ago and while he agreed to it, no one had mentioned anything about costumes to him - especially not these ridiculously awkward ones. One would think a government-paid institution would have more budget for missions like these but no... him and whoever was supposed to accompany him for the night were stuck with the cheapest outfits some officer probably pulled out of the evidence room.
The sergeant sighed at his own appearance as he looked himself up and down in the mirror inside the locker room. Maybe it wouldn't look that bad if the shirt had sleeves... because the missing sleeves and overexposure of his armpits and biceps made him look like a stripper ready to surprise a bachelorette at her party the night before her wedding. It gave him Magic Mike vibes and he did not like it.
Grunting softly he shut the door, waving goodbye to his uniform and then walked out of the locker room, showing himself to the officers working that night. Fortunately, there weren't as many as there used to be but the embarrassment was still huge. As he made his way to the office he was supposed to meet his partner he walked by the forensics, Marlowe's office. The door was slightly ajar but he hoped she wasn't working right now because if she saw him like that she might think he had some weird outfit fetish. First the bomb disposal suit and now the stripper FBI outfit. No, thank you.
He peeked through the door, glancing inside. A wave of relief washed over him after seeing that the office was empty.
Marlowe had taken to eating lunch outside - even if it wasn’t necessarily one’s typical lunch time. She’d been spending more hours than ever in the lab, and eventually she’d just decided to start eating her meal in the fresh air rather than at her desk. It also meant no one could find her to bother her when she finally did take a meal break - because hers usually happened after the rush of the day. Imagine her surprise when she was walking back to the lab and found Roman, not exactly dressed in the typical LPD uniform. Marlowe leaned against the hallway wall, crossing her arms in front of her and raising a brow as she took in the new outfit.
”Don’t tell me they cut uniform funding.” She said, bemusement in her words and certainly on her face. She had heard about a raid on a halloween party later, but it looked to her as if Roman was attending, rather than busting it. ”Is everyone wearing something like that tonight?” She asked, her tone dubious.
[attr="class","CONTENT"] Roman shut his eyes tight, grimacing as soon as he heard her voice from somewhere behind him. He raised his fist, gently bumping it against the doorframe in a damnit manner. Sucking in his breath he turned around, sheer embarrassment flushing his face. "Ha… ha.. ha."he let out, crossing his arms over his chest in a futile attempt to cover up. "Yes, no. it's the new Lethford PD fall edition. Not too hot, not too cold." he joked, taking a step aside in case she wanted or needed to get into her office. "Please, forget this image of me again."
He gave her a pretend once over, tilting his head slightly to the side. "Let me guess… you’re dressed as an overworked government employee. I think that would have been my second choice." Roman said, scrunching his nose slightly. He caught the sight of himself in the reflection of a window again and sighed softly. He’d honestly prefer wearing trash bags rather than this outfit but what could he do about it? An assignment as an assignment, a job was a job. He had never signed up for any undercover work but since everyone was doing everything anyway… he didn’t have much of a choice.
Marlowe tried to suppress the amused smile on her face as he turned to her, playing along for a moment. Giving him a serious nod, she broke out in chuckles as he requested she forget the image of him. She gave a small shake of her head, sighing. ”No chance that’s happening.” She told him flatly, tilting her head as he took a guess at her own costume. He didn’t know how truthful his words were - more often than not, she forgot that the person she presented herself as was just a mask for the real woman in her mind. Marlowe was in disguise every day, not just for the spooky season. Of course, she didn’t admit this, only shrugging her shoulders at his words. ”Hit the nail right on it’s head.” She confirmed, chuckling as she stepped past him into her lab.
Turning and leaning against one of the long tables where she did most of her work, she tried not to stare at him too obviously. The costume was really distracting, which she supposed was the point. ”Did you need me for something?” She asked him, tilting her head slightly as she did so. He’d been looking into her lab, after all.
[attr="class","CONTENT"] Roman gave her a long sigh of defeat. His eyes followed her as she walked into her office, he remained at the door frame. Leaning against the wooden frame he kept his arms crossed over his chest, one hand scratching a spot behind his ear. Roman dropped his head at her question before looking back up at her. "Oh no. I just happened to pass by. Actually, I was really hoping not to run into you wearing… this." he told her, a chipped chortle escaping his lips as he gestured at the outfit with one hand. A hand shot out, index finger pointed at her. "Don't take any pictures. I'll pretend this never happened after it's over." He rubbed the back of his neck before pointing sideways towards the way to other offices. "I was on my way to meet my partner for this assignment."
He retrieved his arm and tucked it back underneath his other arm, kicking at some invisible dust. Was he lingering or did he really have some sort of inquiry for her? It didn’t occur to him that he might have been doing that. He still had some time to spare before the allotted meeting time. "I heard they fixed the electricity issue in the basement. They connected the lights to an emergency generator so at least the lights won’t turn off. That’s something. Just in case you need to go down for another adventure."
Marlowe felt a smile pulling at her lips as he mentioned specifically hoping to avoid her in his costume. She raised a brow at him, trying to look innocent. ”Now why would you want to avoid me in an outfit like that?” She teased softly, moving around her lab because it was better than blatantly staring at him. She busied herself with tucking away random items - she was done for the night, anyhow. At his order to not take pictures, she laughed, surprising even herself. ”Alright, alright. It’ll be our secret.” She replied in a placating tone, raising her hands as if to show how innocent she was. His explanation for how he’d come across her lab still made her wonder why he’d been looking in. If he’d been trying to avoid her, why not take a different route? Or not stop at all? She just raised her brows and made an ‘ohh’ face. ”Ahh, I see. Are they also wearing this new undercover uniform?” She inquired.
His mention of the basement threw her back into that interaction, the two of them in the pitch dark, the way her fear had nearly choked her. It was a little embarrassing, so she was just glad he hadn’t been able to really see her face for most of it. Still, a small smile formed on her mouth as she tidied some files that didn’t really need tidying. Maybe she was sticking around longer than she had to, too. ”Oh, I plan on never returning there again in my life. But good to know for the next unfortunate soul who gets trapped down there.” She replied, glancing over at him with amusement in her gaze. ”Well, if you’re heading in that direction, I can walk with you. I’m done for the day.” She said, trying her best to sound casual as she slipped off her lab coat, the simple black long-sleeved sweater paired with a plain pair of jeans and sensible shoes revealed from underneath it.
