OUTBREAK: ZERO is a semi post-apocalyptic pandemic roleplay set in the fictional city of Lethford, USA. Current season: Winter, 20/21.
March 2020. The world is in pandemonium as one month ago, GHNv-20 was confirmed, five months after the beginning of norovirus season. The number of the infected are in the higher hundred thousands, and the death toll is at an estimated 250,000, with about seventy percent of the rest of the population experiencing mild to moderate illnesses connected to the S. pyogenes bacteria.
The fear of the unknown has caused mass hysteria and panic.
In an attempt to provide a semblance of safety and control, military personnel patrol the streets, even here in Lethford City, and the police force is trying to keep up with the rising street violence, assault, and theft.
Welcome to OUTBREAK: zero. Will you survive?

a sudden occurrence of something unwelcome, such as war or disease. number, no quantity or number; nought; the figure 0.
The scream was echoing through the afternoon. Atlas didn’t know what to do, his eyes went wide as he watched the individual yelling. A part of him wanted to dash out, but the wind was howling through the streets. His heart was racing, blood pumping and deep regret in his stomach. Why did he do this?
It reminded him of the day his brother died. The hours spent in the emergency room. The thought that he would never go down that path but life of crime wouldn’t leave him. A part of him understood the only thing he was good at was persuading other people to give him what was theirs. He was a smooth talker and used that to skate through school. Yet, studies bored the young man. He never cared for science or anything else so he manipulated people.
The day the virus hit was a horrifying day. He remembered watching people line up at hospitals and beg to get looked at. Atlas was confused as to what was happening in the world and didn’t know what to do. Yet, it was when his mother died from the virus that changed his entire perspective. He knew that he couldn’t stay in Seattle, every street corner reminded him of his family. They were gone now, memories of a life that no longer made sense to him so he got far away. Atlas moved to Lethford City and met someone that would change his life.
He spent his days attempting to convince others to give him what they owned. Atlas was good at it but he wondered why Kieran told him to get tested. His fear of hospitals was unbearable but this was a pop-up testing site in some residential area. How bad could it be?
The small trailer didn’t have very many people, he saw some young-looking guy there. When Atlas walked inside, he saw the person doing the testing and another who appeared to be rather distressed.
As he stood there, that is when things went very wrong. His eyes remained on the individual who appeared to be terrified. The woman doing the testing was trying to calm him down. His eyes scanned the room, he looked at the younger man but they didn’t stay there because at that moment the person started screaming.
“It’s true. I have it. Oh god, I am going to die!”
Atlas stepped back, his heart was racing and he couldn’t believe what he heard. His whole family had died of this virus and now that he was actually going to get tested, he was stuck in a trailer with some maniac.
The con artist felt his heart elevate. He wanted to run but the wind howling spoke another story. It had captivated them in this tiny trailer with someone literally losing their mind. He knew he couldn’t let this guy hurt the poor woman testing. Atlas wondered if the younger man there with him was going to help. At that moment, the guy screaming about having the virus grabbed at the woman and was pulling his own hair. That is when he decided he might want to act…
[attr="class","CONTENT"] Atlas was getting ready for the job. He put on his blank pants, boots and long-sleeved shirt. They were heading to the hospital to steal some more supplies. Kieran was told that they were running low and the negotiations were getting tricky. He was not usually involved in this part of the program but they were a man down and Kieran needed him.
He was going to meet him on the street, the man stood next to the broken window and stared out at the world he lived in. Things were getting so complicated. There were times when he wondered why he even tried but if he sat around and did nothing, he could never forgive himself.
He despised hospitals. The last time he was in one he received terrible news. When he lived in Seattle, his brother was shot down by a gang member. The young man went to the hospital, his eyes remaining on the hall way. He was told that his brother was dumped at the ER and his wounds were critical. Atlas sat in the ER all night, his arms wrapped around his sobbing mother and watching some man pace beside a window. He would never forget, his heart racing and wondering if he would survive. Yet, he had a feeling. A sense of dread that filled his soul when he watched the doctor walk out of those double doors with that look in his eyes. Nope, hospitals were never his scene but these people would die without those supplies. So, he would put his own emotions to the side in order to get what his friend needed.

Atlas moved to Lethford City and met someone that would change his life. He walked down the darkened streets to meet that man. He was the smooth talker, the one who usually got them out of things but this time he wouldn’t be using those skills. He was actually a bit nervous at the idea of what he would be doing. Hell, the man was out of his comfort zone but he refused to tell Kieran this. He would look brave, that was the one thing he was great at…faking it. Atlas saw the man and nodded his direction. Standing in front of him, he heard Kieran mention they would be getting in and out of there quickly. He raised his eyebrows,
“Thought this one might be a bit different.”
Since the virus hit, the ER would be absolute chaos. Attempting to smooth talk someone would be rather difficult so he understood the change in their plans.
They walked inside and he noticed that his assumptions were correct. It was chaos. Atlas looked at the front desk, people were coming and going so getting to something around there wouldn’t be as difficult as attempting to take supplies. He listened to Kieran say do what he can and that meant it was his job to get those keys.
An alarm went off and nurses started rushing. He noticed one had some keys and she placed them under the desk. It was a secure area but nothing he hadn’t done before. Atlas knew he could get to those if he moved fast enough. He was too focused on the keys to do his usual job. Plus, he was always triggered in hospitals. It was the place he watched half of his family die. His eyes remained on the keys which meant he wasn’t looking for other things.
That was when he noticed Kieran walking into a room. He silently strolled behind him but he didn’t look around. The door said something about staff and he knew that his friend would be attempting to take medical supplies.
At that point, he thought he heard something and silently cursed to himself. The man was so focused on how he would get those keys that he didn’t see something was coming.
[attr="class","CONTENT"] His childhood was complicated. The boy enjoyed games that other children didn’t play but he never gave up on his pretend world. This was something he could control while attempting to survive true poverty. His mother did everything she could, worked two jobs while residing in Seattle but in the end, it was a sickness that took her. Something no one could have predicted.
While in Seattle, his older brother was shot down by a gang. He remembered standing in the door way and watching his mother fall to the ground. Her scream could be heard throughout the neighborhood and this terrified young Atlas. He knew that day he would never join a gang.
Yet, life of crime wouldn’t leave him. A part of him understood the only thing he was good at was persuading other people to give him what was theirs. He was a smooth talker and used that to skate through school. Yet, studies bored the young man. He never cared for science or anything else so he manipulated people.

The second day he was in Lethford City, Atlas attempted to con a man named Kieran. He remembered sitting at the booth and looking across the table. He told the man about his sick uncle and how he would die if he didn’t get him medical attention. He told this story with the perfect number of emotions. The man knew if he cried too much it would be suspecting or if he didn’t look sad it would also be a dead giveaway. Yet, the man didn’t fall for his con but offered him a place in his network.
Supermarket shelves are empty, factories are struggling to keep up with demand while also dealing with staff shortages caused by the virus, and most of the world has come to a standstill. Atlas watched as people suffered and knew he could use his skill for the better. People were told to stay home while the military took to the streets and the police force attempted to keep up with the rising violence. Yet, through all this turmoil he found a calling. Working with Kieran provided him with a meaning in life and when they met Adam everything fell together.
He stood near the shopping center. Atlas stared at the place; it was in disarray. It truly saddened the man brought him back to the time when he was a child and they would go to the mall. Since the virus started spreading, people ruined places like that. The looting destroyed so much. Yet, he pictured his mother buying a sweater, standing at the check out and smiling at him. That image slowly disappeared when he thought he saw Kieran. He shook his head and made his way toward the man. The Con Artist was aware that Kieran was attempting to recruit people into their network. This AJ person would be wonderful, he was military. Raising his eyebrows, he saw the other man in the distance and was shocked to see he was a police officer. This couldn’t be…
Atlas walked closer and was upset to see that Kieran was already talking to him. The man understood that he was the smooth talker, not Kieran.
“What my good friend is attempting to say is that we might have some good information to give you regarding a criminal empire.”
Atlas didn’t want to look suspicious and hoped this might smooth things over a bit.
“That is, if you are willing to listen.”
He stood before both men, his eyes on the man Kieran called Robin and simply smiled. He hoped this would work.
[attr="class","CONTENT"] Atlas would never want to return to Seattle. There were days he wondered what it would be like in China, a country his mother ran from because of poverty. Yet, he was in Lethford now, stealing medical supplies in order to save humanity. Although, a part of him was into this operation for himself.
When he was young, Atlas would play games with his brothers. He would pretend to be a sales person and convince them to buy things. The other boys would grow tired of such things but he loved creating a variety of lives or events and disappearing in them. It felt like make believe was the only things that made sense. His mother would work two jobs in order for them to survive so the boys spent hours alone.

That man was Kieran. He decided to stay with him because it made life easier. Yet, he had no clue if that was even possible. The water was contaminated and people were getting sicker by the day. The shopping markets destroyed and now the military was doing home raids. How is that possible? Yet, nothing surprised the man anymore.
Atlas made sure everything important was hidden. He had trick walls, places where people would never look and boards that he could easily lift from the floor and hid things. Hell, the two of them had everything figured out. At least that is what he thought…
The night was crawling in and he felt a cool chill against his skin. He put the collar of his coat up as he heard a person screaming in the distance. He noticed a fire, it was farther up ahead and he decided to not deal with something like that tonight. His plan was to meet Kieran in an alley way so that they can discuss further plans. The best form of communication these days was face to face.
The moon was high but hidden behind the clouds. He rarely saw anything in the sky these days. A part of him felt like the world was burning as this virus continued to spread throughout the world. All that made sense to him now was this city.
Atlas saw Kieran approaching but his attention was toward some man in a uniform. He raised his eyebrows, it appeared that hiss friend recognized this man and that terrified him. Hell, they were criminals and avoided the military like the plague. Yet, what if they could get someone like that on their side?
“Kieran,”
Atlas said calmly into the night wind. He stared at the other man and said,
