OUTBREAK: ZERO is a semi post-apocalyptic pandemic roleplay set in the fictional city of Lethford, USA. Current season: Winter, 20/21.
March 2020. The world is in pandemonium as one month ago, GHNv-20 was confirmed, five months after the beginning of norovirus season. The number of the infected are in the higher hundred thousands, and the death toll is at an estimated 250,000, with about seventy percent of the rest of the population experiencing mild to moderate illnesses connected to the S. pyogenes bacteria.
The fear of the unknown has caused mass hysteria and panic.
In an attempt to provide a semblance of safety and control, military personnel patrol the streets, even here in Lethford City, and the police force is trying to keep up with the rising street violence, assault, and theft.
Welcome to OUTBREAK: zero. Will you survive?

[attr="class","CONTENT"] “Nurse Johnson told me. You might not be familiar with her though. She just transferred from another hospital a couple of days ago.” Carmen looked at him, not averting her gaze to show she was more than confident in telling him this information despite it being a complete lie and something she just made up. There was no nurse Johnson who told her to do this but there, sure enough, were a bunch of Johnson’s in this hospital. And to be frank, there were so many constant personnel changes and additions that even Carmen wasn’t familiar with everyone anymore.
“I’m not too happy about it either. I was about to get off work you know,” she grumbled, rolling her eyes at the fact she stated which was for once the truth. She glanced over at the clock hanging on the wall. Thanks to him she was staying even longer. She made a quick mental note to add this to her overwork time to get paid. It wasn’t her fault he’s somewhat interrogating her anyway, might as well get paid for this nuisance. Narrowing her eyes at him when he asked her if she thought anyone had time for lawsuits these days Carmen scoffed lightly, dropping her gaze to the floor for a moment. “Don’t underestimate people. A lot struggle with money, even more than before, so naturally, they look for every opportunity to get their hands on some,” she told him, rolling her eyes with a smile. She wondered if he was that oblivious and naïve to the world outside of the hospital or if he was just trying to ignore it.
“Oh! Maybe I can help-“ Carmen started but he already declared that he knew where it was. She clamped her lips together, offering him a tight-lipped smile. He didn’t need help. She stepped aside to give him some space, to keep some distancing as one should do. She gave it a little shrug with her shoulder, one eyebrow raised up. At least this gave her an excuse to quickly exit the room. She was able to grab quite a lot of things that she didn’t expect to be able to do, even though his sudden appearance made a cut through her plans. It was more than enough to last at least perhaps a week or more depending on how many people there were to treat.
The brunette laughed softly, grasping the bag in her hands a little tighter. “Well, since this is resolved I’m just going to take my lea-“ she began, backing away from him when she tripped over her own feet, something a bit unusual for her since she wasn’t the clumsy kind. The bags she was holding went flying, spilling their contents all over the floor. Carmen let out a gasp before scrambling to stuff them back inside the trash bag in danger of exposing herself after all. A series of cusses in Spanish left her lips when she grabbed two of the packagings.
[attr="class","CONTENT"] Carmen opened the trash bag when he asked, staring into it as if she was thinking very hard about it. Maybe now was the time to pretend to be a rookie. His face wasn’t too familiar to her. Nurses switched departments and stations so often, they quit or got fired so many times no one could possibly keep track of them all, especially now that everyone is wearing a mask covering and hiding half of their faces. He could probably only see her eyes, her hair, and maybe a tiny part of the bridge of her nose. The brunette was assured no one could possibly recognize her by her eyebrows even if they were on fleek.
She gave the stuff in the bag another look before looking back at him. Now was the time to prove the acting skills she acquired on the streets… somewhat. Playing innocent in front of police and talking their way out of those problems was a whole other level. This should be easier? Right? "I… don’t know. I was just told to sort out anything expired." she told him, pushing her bottom lip forward in a slight pout, although he couldn’t see it anyway. Instead, Carmen resorted to using her eyes to communicate, batting her thick, dark eyelashes at him.
Giving him a small shrug she held up the bag. "Sure. They can still be used… elsewhere." Like for the homeless and helpless, those who couldn't afford hospital trips or meds from the pharmacy. Those who lived on the streets now have even less than they did before because of the pandemic and the virus terrorizing the city. "But as far as I know, I don’t think the hospital likes getting sued over expired medication." she said, clicking her tongue and going back to pretending to sort out meds. She picked up a box of painkillers, the expiry date perfectly fine and not until the next year. Throwing it into the bag anyway she tapped another box with her nails.
"You know… all those Karens running around in a desperate search of victims just like you. They are hungry for anyone they can get their hands on, requesting to speak to the manager. I’m sure the Chief of this hospital would love to do that because he doesn’t have better things to do." Shaking her head as she spoke, pretending to shudder at the thought of those angry women and men whose names obviously weren't all Karens, Susans, Chads.
Turning halfways towards him she whipped her ponytail to the other side, having it hang over her shoulder. "Lawsuits are more expensive than meds. Is there anything you need from this room? Maybe I can assist you with that."
[attr="class","CONTENT"] Carmen instantly paused whatever she was doing when Puck told her he was following her as if it was the most normal thing to say. She rolled her eyes at him, an idea of how and why already spinning in her mind but she brushed it away. She figured he wouldn’t be doing that on his own accord. Or at least it might not have been his idea. She was an adult, a fully grown woman. "I’m not a child that needs protection." she scoffed, feeling just a tad bit irritated that someone would think that. But on the other hand, she was of course, grateful to have someone to trust, someone who had her back even if she didn’t know about it.
Throwing her head back and holding out her arms forward in mocking disbelief she looked at him. "Really? Do you want to follow me to the restroom every time I need to go too? What is supposed to happen-" she began, gesturing around her, the empty and quiet area they were at. "While I’m all alone by myself wandering the super empty streets of Lethford. Get kidnapped by a ghost?" she countered, laughing softly. The lockdown was keeping people inside their homes and even if some were breaking those regulations the majority was still sticking to it for the most part. Also, the rising numbers in crimes ever since the lockdown and curfew were announced was just another good reason for anyone to just stay inside.
"I’m sure you have better things to do than following me. I can take care of myself you know." Carmen made sure to empathize the last part, copying his own words. She whipped her hair around, pulling some out of her face. She definitely didn’t mind the company and surely not the help he could give her transporting those things over to the clinic. Climbing down the stairs was one thing but trying to climb over the rails of the subway and into the tunnels was another, especially on those days where she decided to wear heels which were more than inconvenient.
She looked at him, returning his smirk with a grin. Curling her fingers around the door and grabbing it tightly Carmen nodded as he spoke. "Together." she replied, "One, two, three!" Carmen threw herself back and pulled with all her strength and the door opened, although it was probably Puck who managed to open it. A variety of labeled boxes and bags came into view as she held out her phone’s flashlight once again.
Stepping into the container, making sure not to trip at the level between that and the ground, she made her way to one of the boxes before shining the light at Puck. "I need a bunch of these over at the clinic. How many do you think you can carry?" she asked, lips twisting to the side in a thinking motion. "I didn’t mention it earlier but it’s good to see you. I hope you’re keeping yourself out of trouble these days." she told him jokingly. The sudden separation was probably hard on all of them but Carmen got to focus more on her work as a nurse, both for the hospital and the underground clinic. She wasn't sure what everyone else was up to.
[attr="class","CONTENT"] Carmen tensed at the sound of someone moving in the dark, her hand gripping the keys tight between her fingers, ready to use it and jab someone's eyes out. It seemed like such a cliché. A woman’s best bet when it came to self-defense. But Carmen wasn't your typical woman. She wasn’t necessarily scared either… more careful... if anything. She waited for the person to show themself when a familiar voice broke the suspending silence, turning off the flashlight on her phone, her hand clutching the device moved to her chest as she breathed a sigh of relief.
At least it wasn’t some kind of thug trying to rob her - or the things stored inside the container. Not like they weren’t thugs themselves. Heck, even the things inside the container were stolen… mostly that is. No, Carmen was pretty sure all of it was somehow acquired illegally. A few things were hers, some were maybe Puck’s but the majority were brought to her by delivery. When she asked how there never was an answer and even now she didn’t know where all of it came from.
Glancing at her phone she pushed the home screen button, watching the screen light up but there weren't any notifications. No messages, no missed calls. "I’m glad it’s you but what the hell. Is sneaking up on people a new trend I'm not aware of?" Carmen questioned, scoffing just slightly in a jesting way. Her attention went back to the keys as she grabbed them, turning it to unlock the lock.
One gloved hand rested on the cold metal doors before she whipped her head to the side, curious eyes staring at Puck. "How did you know where to find me?" she asked, a part of her wondering, another didn’t really. She squinted at his figure in the dark, her lips forming a contempt line. She shook her head, curls bobbing against her cheeks. "At least-" she started, giving him a mischievous grin. "Now that you’re here… I'm sure I can use some help." she added, nodding at the container doors, one hand grasping the side, trying to pull them open.
It didn’t budge. For a brief moment, Carmen felt dumbfounded. They opened perfectly fine last time. Leaning away with all her weight, not that there was much of that, she pulled and pulled but nothing happened. A disgruntled growl left her throat. Was it frozen?
[attr="class","CONTENT"] Anyone’s first reflex would have been to hide the bags which were filled with non-trash but Carmen knew better - she hoped. She didn’t try to hide them but she also couldn’t help the gasp that escaped her lips at the sudden appearance of someone. Letting go of the small box she held in her hands and placing them back on the shelf she turned halfway around to face the person. He looked as surprised as she was. Did people not knock anymore? Right, it was a hospital but surely manners would be appreciated just about everywhere.
Her eyes went from him to the bag, to the shelf, and back to him. Don’t act suspicious. It might be a rather rare occasion for medication to expire in a hospital but considering the times they were in, the need for specific stuff was no longer there. Their main focus was the virus after all and even though there still were other patients and cases to take care of, an ointment for skin rashes was more or less useless.
The brunette let out a casual laugh, running the flat palm of her hand against her hair that was up in a high ponytail. "I- am sorting out old products." she began, gesturing at the shelf. "There’s a lot of things that haven’t been used and now those are trash." she continued, holding up one of the trash bags for him to see.
She grabbed a random tube of ointment from the shelf and looked at it, pretending to read the imprint on it. "Best before July 8th." Carmen said, making it all up and flashing it at him as well before tossing it into the trash bag as well. "Medical waste. In you go." Big, brown eyes framed by a set of voluptuous eyelashes gleamed up at him and even though he couldn’t see it, her lips arched up in a bright smile. "Does that answer your question?" She hoped it did. And even though Carmen had always prepared herself for an incident like this she only had a handful of excuses to use.
[attr="class","CONTENT"] Ever since the gang disbanded Carmen tried her best to keep the underground clinic running. Not for herself, but for those who needed it. Those who couldn’t afford to visit a regular hospital, afford to call an ambulance. Not to mention that every hospital was just full of people needing treatment and help but most were heavily understaffed these days.
Considering it was a project run by criminals the area surrounding it wasn’t exactly the safest place to store supplies - at least not all of them. Carmen preferred to keep part of it away, usually within the gang’s headquarters where she also used to live. But her new apartment didn’t have the space to hold all of it and to avoid suspicion she found one of those cargo containers at the docks down at the Lethford River where she could keep it.
Carmen pulled up her scarf to cover her face, shielding it from the chilly wind which seemed to be stronger down at the river. She couldn’t really believe how fast time passed. One day it was scorching hot and the other it was freezing cold. It would be during this time of the year that the city started decorating for the Christmas season but instead the streets and storefronts were just empty and dark.
Walking down the stairs she made her way to the docks, into a maze of freight containers. She held out her phone, glancing down at the screen while she navigated through. If she didn’t mark the exact location on her phone’s map Carmen was sure she would get lost all the time.
Digging her free hand into the pocket of her coat the brunette approached hers, pulling out a key and shining the phone’s flashlight at the lock to see. She was just about to put the key inside when the faintest of noises caught her attention, immediately whipping her head around and holding the light out into the direction it was coming from. "Who's there? If you don't want to get pepper-sprayed I suggest you either show yourself or leave." Carmen threatened, narrowing her eyes, the key slipping between her fingers to use as a weapon if needed.
[attr="class","CONTENT"] Carmen’s shift was almost over, although it felt like it would never end. The ER was swamped with patients and so was the rest of the hospital. She was helping two other nurses to transfer a patient from one bed into another when he decided to throw up blood on the floor… and her. Red specks covered her otherwise clean scrubs, a sigh leaving her lips. It wasn’t anything unusual. And blood was definitely the nicest bodily fluid out of everything else.
However, for Carmen, the timing was just perfect because now she had an excuse to go change into a fresh pair of scrubs, giving her a chance to grab some supplies on her way, and then she could just hide it in her locker until she was able to leave. Quick hands grabbed two of the red biohazard trash bags which just happened to be the perfect disguise. You couldn’t see through it and normally everyone would just ignore it, thinking there’s just trash in it. So far, so good.
Making her way to a quieter part of the hospital she stepped inside one of the regular storage rooms, the ones holding all sorts of wound dressings and standard supplies. Pulling out one container after another the brunette took everything she could possibly need - bandages, antiseptic wipes, sanitizer, gloves, infusions sets, a pack of scissors and tweezers, and just about everything she could get her hands on.
The more difficult part was getting medication and infusions because those were stored elsewhere and usually a nurse was always around. But Carmen wasn’t stupid. She made her way over to the storage room, one hand grasping the trash bag, hiding it behind the wall while she leaned against the doorway. "There’s an emergency in operating room 3. They said they need someone to bring them 5 bottles of isotonic saline." Carmen told the nurse inside the room, her voice as innocent as an angel’s. She smiled underneath her mask, gaze shifting towards her dirty scrubs, signaling that she needed to get changed first before being able to go anywhere near it.
Watching her gather the solutions and leaving the room Carmen waited another moment before slipping into the supply room, closing the door as quietly as she could. It shut with a soft thud, and with that, she walked over to the cabinet filled with all basic meds. Dark eyes quickly went through the shelves before she grabbed a few packs of painkillers and fever medication, tossing them into the second red bag.

[attr="class","dibody3"] Carmen laughed. She wished she could be as bright and full of sunshine like Eloise. Despite being a little similar the brunette was a different kind of bright. If Eloise was the sun at dawn, Carmen could be considered the sun at dusk. She lost all her childlike innocence years ago. Probably the moment she left home to escape. Sometimes the thought about how her family was doing occurred to her, quietly and sneakingly slipping into her head. Of course the moment that would happen she would swat it away like a fly. They never cared much about her. Why should she do it instead?
The brunette shook her head, dark curls bouncing around her face. “Oh no. I could never call you a criminal.” she said playfully but there was a hint of seriousness on her voice. Carmen was prepared to take the blame if things went wrong because she was the real criminal. Vigilante, however, especially the Robin part, sounded much better. Perhaps still not legal but she would never want to consider the red headed nurse as a delinquent. “If you’re Robin, I’ll be Batwoman.”
When she agreed to join Carmen nodded, turning towards Jared. “Keep an eye on the lady over there. I’ll see you around!” she told him, smiling at him and the others as she packed her bags and waved at them one last time. She turned to Eloise and gestured at her to follow, already starting to walk towards another alley.
“Those are nice people. I know everyone was hit pretty hard by this pandemic but they? They didn't have much to begin with and now… now they have nothing left. Some even considered applying for the clinical test trials for Advotex even though no one knows what could happen.”

‘Unless you want me to drive.’
Carmen gave him a hard look, one that didn't quite fit her delicate features. “No freaking way.” she responded, carefully snatching the keys from him and dangling them in front of him now.
Carmen helped him up and to the car, using the crowd of rioters as some sort of protective wall and distraction. They were moving slow, so slow that Carmen couldn't help herself but keep glancing back over her shoulder, nervous to see those soldiers. As they made their way towards the car she tried to stick close to the few buildings they had to pass so Az would have something to lean and support himself on other than
Carmen who was going to be more than just sore the next day. Nevertheless, it was nothing compared to his injuries. She knew he was going to be in pain for more than just a day and she already made a mental list of medication to give him, to ease the pain. Gunshot wounds were nasty, especially if the bullet decides to change direction inside the body. Either way, those hurt like a bitch.
The car was parked not too far away from the City Hall, but still so far that it was hidden out of plain sight and no one would be suspicious of it if anything would have gone wrong… even more than already did. With the blinking of the lights the car announced it's unlocked and Carmen opened the passenger side door, helping Az to ease into the seat as carefully as she could before she jogged around to the driver’s side and slipped inside herself. Within seconds she started the car, hit the gas pedal and, even though the first move was very jerky, it started moving down the street.
She winced at her bumpy start, immediately glancing over to Az as if she felt the pain with him. “Sorry. Sorry. Sorry. You good? Don’t fall asleep. Stay with me okay.” she told him, worry in her voice. She was stepping on the gas and driving down the empty lane like crazy, eyes watchful for patrol cars. But she figured they had bigger problems than someone speeding.
And even though the police and military were busy elsewhere there were still rioters to deal with. There was a group blocking the middle of the street. Carmen slammed her hand on the horn to let them know they got to move. She narrowed her eyes at them the closer she got… they didn't want to move. A series of spanish curses left her lips before she was forced to make a sharp right turn.
[attr="class","dilyrics3"]Your lips feel warm to the touch You can bring me back to life On the outside you're ablaze and alive But

[attr="class","dibody3"] A satisfied smile spread across the brunette’s face as she and Jared watched the ginger pass out meals and water. She nudged him with her elbow and the two of them grinned at each other before Carmen got up and walked towards an elderly woman. She opened the smaller bag, wrapped around her waist, and took out a bunch of dressings and wound disinfectant.
She was slightly taken aback by her question though, fiddling with the materials in her hands. “Umm… because-” she paused, her head bobbing in soft nods, trying to think of a good reason to tell her. She couldn’t possibly say that it’s more or less funded by a gang, even though they didn’t know about it either. Besides, Carmen never really thought about asking someone for help. Especially knowing that this could get people into trouble these days.
It really was ridiculous. While she really appreciated the lockdown to help lower case numbers and force people to stay at home, Carmen wished they would take those who didn’t have a home into consideration. Homeless shelters were overcrowded nowadays - not that they haven’t already been overly populated before the pandemic - and there was basically no place for them to go.
And Carmen knew how it felt to live out on the streets. She could empathize with them, with Jared, with the little girl and her mother. Because at some point she was just like them: someone with no place to go. No place to really call home until the Legion was founded. Those years were full of adventures but also full of pain and dread.
So, in the end, all Carmen did was to shrug as a reply as she proceeded to clean the woman’s cut on her forehead. “I don’t even remember when I started coming out here. I guess I didn’t want to drag innocent unicorns into this.” she laughed, setting aside the dirty wipe. Tilting her head slightly to the side, glancing at Eloise she gave her another shrug. “No one was bothered by them before the pandemic. But suddenly they are. Some of the police understand and turn a blind eye but the military certainly doesn’t. They don’t know the city, they don’t know the people.” Carmen continued, carefully placing the dressing over the cut. “There you go! Make sure to tell someone if you feel like you have a fever.”
Rising up from her crouch, Carmen lifted her arms over her head to stretch. She looked over at the other people sitting around, some hidden underneath their blankets and jackets. “There’s another group nearby. Do you want to join me?” she asked, turning to look at Eloise.
[attr="class","dilyrics3"]Your lips feel warm to the touch You can bring me back to life On the outside you're ablaze and alive But
[attr="class","dilyric3"]you're dead inside
[attr="class","dibody3"] Carmen’s worried eyes rested on him as she gave him another quick once-over. Her lips which would usually be found arched up into a bright smile were pressed together tightly, full lips faded into a thin line. She absolutely hated how today’s events have turned out, how their plans have failed. Today didn’t get them any gains, no, it only brought them pain. All the effort was going down the drain and despite their efforts, Carmen couldn’t do much more.
The thought of leaving Az and going back to look for something… just anything that could provide the Legion with some backup… but she knew she would be haunted for life by Az if she did decide to do so. Carmen bit her lower lip as she glanced over her shoulder towards the door. A soft sigh of defeat left her lips, her lipstick probably all rubbed off by now. There was no going back. They had to leave now, or either get captured by the soldiers they tried escaping so hard. Not only that but seeing as Az’s condition seemed to worsen with every passing minute it was the only right choice the two of them could make.
‘See you down there.’
“Be care-” Carmen tried calling out but before she could finish the word he leaped out of the window. A wince escaped her lips and she couldn’t help but grimace as he let out the yell of pain. She leaned over the edge, looking down at the ground as she gripped the sill with both hands. She wanted to call out, ask if he was alright, but the fastest way to check on him would have been jumping herself. Hesitating, she once again looked over her shoulder, ears catching the sound of footsteps shuffling into their direction.
Swinging over one leg and then the other the brunette didn’t even think twice before pushing herself away from the edge, her arms flailing slightly beside her as she dropped down to the ground. Once her feet touched the ground she rolled but despite all efforts to land in a crouch, she ended up rolling onto her side. Now covered in dirt Carmen quickly gathered her thoughts, pushing herself up and brushing off bits and pieces here and there while she made her way over to where Az was.
The same expression of pure worry covered her face, just like it did before the escape. “Are you okay?” she asked, swallowing hard as she examined him with her eyes. “Just a few more steps and we can get to the car. We’ll be out of here soon.” she said, keeping her voice low in case someone else was outside. The sound of things exploding, glass shattering, gunshots being fired and people screaming either in agony or rage, echoed all through the area. Carmen placed a supporting hand on his shoulder, trying to get a grasp on him to help him move. “You know after this I’ll have you grounded for at least a week to heal. Some of the guys love to take bribes.” she joked, at least tried to, to ease the situation slightly.
[attr="class","CONTENTb"] The brunette tilted her head to the side, luminous curls falling on her face. She tucked away a strand behind her ear, keeping it from blocking her view. Her gaze dropped down to the operation desk, dark eyes flickering between all the buttons and levers, one delicate finger running over them. Hmm, she thought as she tried to remember how it all worked. It had been a hot minute since the last time she was here. Blame the lack of time thanks to work.
Carmen somewhat remembered how it all worked but she wasn't entirely confident in her abilities. Nevertheless, she pressed one of the buttons, chocolate eyes sparkling as the ride came to life just like the rest of the park. The lights flickered slightly, fighting and struggling to get alive after probably a long time of being turned off.
Flashing a bright smile at Greg she nodded towards the ride. "Hop i-" She stopped mid-sentence, her head whipping towards the new voice. Carmen gave the newcomer a quick once over, lips arching up in delight at the sight of his uniform. A soldier. Her last run-in with those didn’t end quite… well. At least not for Az. A little bitterness and anger bubbled up inside of her at the sight of him. Carmen had never been the kind of woman who was out for revenge but sometimes - especially when it involved Az - she could go for a tiny, itsy bitsy bit of vengeance.
"Oh, it is?" she questioned, pushing her bottom lip slightly forward into an innocent pout, looking around the area. "I did not realize." the brunette responded, a fake gasp making its way past her lips, shaking her head slightly. "In need of a short break from patrol, sir?" she told him, offering nothing more than a small shrug towards the ride.

[attr="class","dibody3"] Carmen noticed some of the people in the alley shifting and scrambling to get their belongings when someone arrived. She turned around, her long, brown curls brushing her cheeks as she whipped her head around to see if it was another patrol. Like they didn’t have anything better to do than to hunt the helpless ones. She was about to snap when a familiar chirp echoed through the alley. She didn’t really have to look anymore to know who this energetic voice belonged to. The Valentine sisters were known throughout the hospital as the serotonin siblings. If anyone was in a bad mood, they could surely help.
‘Did you just get off, too? I missed the bus.’
Her hand was wrapped around a sandwich, which she might have held on to too tight because of the startle Eloise had caused. “Hey! Didn’t expect to see you here. No, I worked the night shift yesterday.” Carmen called over, mirroring the red-heads smile as she did so. She looked over at the mother and her child, giving them a friendly nod. “Don’t worry. She won’t harm you. She belongs to me.” Carmen told them, turning to look at all of the people surrounding her.
She grinned at the young girl crouching next to her mother. “She’s a unicorn, but it’s a secret between the three of us okay?” she whispered, winking at her and laughing softly before handing her a small bag of candy. “Trick or treat!” the brunette gasped playfully, getting up from her current position. She brushed some dust off of her legs and walked over to Jared, placing a hand on his shoulder while looking at Eloise. “Eloise. This is Jared. Leader of this gang.” she mused, giving him a gentle pat on his back. “If you want to help maybe you can distribute the rest of the water and food to the other guys here?”
[attr="class","CONTENT"] Carmen looked up at the pirate statue standing right next to the entrance gate, a soft snicker escaping her lips at the sight of it. She didn't know exactly what her reasoning for being at a closed amusement park was. It was her day off from both jobs - for once. She had time to spare and she didn't feel like wasting it on sleep. Sleep was for the weak. With the current situation in the city, every single second alive was precious.
The gate was unlocked, she probably wasn't the first to come here after it closed down. One delicate hand reached out and pushed the gate open as she slipped inside and shut it behind her. Carmen had never actually been to the amusement park during its regular operating hours. The memory of her and Az sneaking in after dark when they were younger made her smile as she walked down the path of the park.
Her gaze flickered to the empty ice cream stand, a wave of sadness washing over her. Wrapping her arms around her, a thin synthetic leather jacket failing at keeping her warm, she made her way to the electrical room, knowing exactly where it was. There was still time until the power outage would take place and lockdown hadn't begun yet either. It was usually Az or one of his men who would turn on the power but Carmen memorized every switch she needed to turn on.
Her fingers reached for one switch after another, the park around her slowly coming back to life. Some things looked like they wouldn't work but that was fine. She didn't need everything. Even if it was just the Ferris wheel it would make her more than happy.
Once that was done she continued her way down the path until she arrived at a ride, spotting a figure in the distance. Carmen had always been an open person, lively, and perhaps a little noisy. The two of them were in the same situation. Chances they entered the park legally were low. She walked up to the operation desk of the ride, leaning against it.
