OUTBREAK: ZERO is a semi post-apocalyptic pandemic roleplay set in the fictional city of Lethford, USA. Current season: Winter, 20/21.
March 2020. The world is in pandemonium as one month ago, GHNv-20 was confirmed, five months after the beginning of norovirus season. The number of the infected are in the higher hundred thousands, and the death toll is at an estimated 250,000, with about seventy percent of the rest of the population experiencing mild to moderate illnesses connected to the S. pyogenes bacteria.
The fear of the unknown has caused mass hysteria and panic.
In an attempt to provide a semblance of safety and control, military personnel patrol the streets, even here in Lethford City, and the police force is trying to keep up with the rising street violence, assault, and theft.
Welcome to OUTBREAK: zero. Will you survive?

Seraphina looked up at the now abandoned movie theater she frequented when she was younger. It was on its dying leg even before the pandemic. It only needed one good kick before it was down for good, and this world-wide even gave it a good one. She frowned as she turned to go to her usual spot on top of the theater's roof. She and her siblings found this spot and stake the claim as their 'hangout' of sorts. Sure it's been years since any of them ventured up the ladder that led to the rooftop, but it provided comfort in an otherwise confusing world. Once she reached the top, she walked towards the secure spot of being in between the large, old-fashioned marquee and the roof vent. Lowering herself to the ground, she pulled out a cigarette, lit it up, and inhaled.
Four months. It took only four months for the world to become a hellscape. Riots, injustices, and confusion ran rampant with no promise of it ending anytime soon. She made a living as an investigative journalist and was doing pretty well with herself. Sure the job meant she'd make some enemies, but who was she trying to impress? It had its ups and downs, but she was sure every job had something about it that wasn't perfect.
The blonde took another inhale of smoke and watched as it disappeared into the late afternoon sky. She looked at her cigarette in disdain. What made this situation worse was this new habit of smoking. She lingered that fine line of turning back before it becomes an addiction and wanting a little taste of more. Taking a final look, she closed her eyes and allowed it to dangle between her fingers while her hand rested on her knee. Maybe she'll allow fate to decide if she should continue or not: It was already doing everything else for her.

[attr="class","dibody3"] Wriggling out of the blue scrubs, dropping them to the floor before changing into her own clothes. She let her long, wavy hair down, finally freeing it from the tight hair tie. Carmen hated to have her hair up in a ponytail or a bun. It always made her feel stuffy. Unfortunately, the job as a nurse came with a rule to have it tied at all times for security reasons. Thus, she’s happy every time she’s done with her shift. It was just a little thing that bothered her… but it bothered her. Once she was done checking her reflection in the mirror and putting on some lipstick, smacking her lips to make sure it spread evenly, she shut her locker door, grabbed the clothes on the floor, and walked to the return container where she tossed them in. She quickly waved goodbye to her fellow coworkers before heading out of the hospital.
The moment she stepped out of the building, Carmen almost ripped off her mask - of course, trying to avoid smearing her lipstick all over her face - and took the deepest breath in what felt forever. Fresh air. A smile emerged on her face out of sheer happiness of being able to breath. 16 hours inside the stuffy hospital, running, moving, carrying things, all with a mask on… the worst.
She took the bus out of downtown, getting off a few stops before her destination. The streets were empty for the most part and she enjoyed that very much. Carmen always liked to go out for walks - usually at night - but anytime she could be outside, free to move and to do whatever she wanted to do, she would take that chance. Her gaze was directed at the shop windows she passed, looking at the closed store signs with sad eyes. Would there ever be a chance to regularly shop again? However, at that moment she spotted the reflection of a familiar-looking silhouette. She turned around, following her - just out of curiosity. If Carmen and Az had one thing in common it was to make sure to know what their employees and members were up to.
Carmen almost slipped at her first attempt at climbing up the ladder. Her heels weren’t the best choice of footwear if only she had known beforehand that climbing up rooftops would be on her to-do list for the day. She grumbled some mild curses in Spanish under her breath and took off her heels, stuffing them into her bag, until she made it to the top. Once there she paused to slip them back on. Her head whipped around, trying to find the person she had seen earlier.
Spotting the familiar curly mane of an employee at the Lux she tucked a strand of her full, dark hair behind an ear. “Smoking kills approximately 480.000 people each year. The probability of dying from lung cancer might still be higher than dying from the virus.” Carmen said nonchalantly with a shrug, as she stalked over towards Seraphina, her heels clicking on the ground with each step. The brunette placed her bag on the floor before peeking over the edge of the rooftop. “That’s a great hiding spot. How did you find it?” she asked, offering her a warm and grande smile.
Sera was lost in her thoughts that she didn't hear the initial clambering of someone climbing up the ladder to the rooftop. It wasn't until she heard a voice did she jump and turn towards the person it belonged to. She felt herself relax from her initial scare at the sight of her familiar friend. Smirking, she looked from the cigarette to Carmen and replied "Then what's all this fuss about this virus?" She was teasing of course and she knew it was a big thing, but nevertheless Carmen's comment was enough for her to stub out her cigarette and flick it somewhere. The thought of littering occurred to her, but there was nowhere else the stub could find its final resting place at so wherever it landed would do.
She watched as her friend made her way towards her and she moved over to make a spot for her. Sera laughed at her comment before responding. "Well, it was a nice hiding spot," she teased. "But it's something my siblings and I discovered when we were kids." She sighed and looked to the sky. "Whenever life got too overwhelming and confusing, this spot was where we could get away from it all." Though they were all adults now and very seldom frequented this spot, she still held true to its purpose. "I'll share it with you, but it's punishable by death if you reveal it to anyone," she said with a narrowing of her eyes, followed by a playful laugh.
"So... heels and lipstick. Where are you heading to little lady?" She asked with a smirk. "Planning to see a certain someone?"

[attr="class","dibody3"] Carmen turned halfway, lowering her head to look at Sera sitting on the floor. “It’s just another way of humans dying. I mean, we all do at some point, but the virus is just making it happen… faster.” she said, lips pursed inward before she smacked them and slid down the wall to join her friend on the floor. She leaned back against the cold surface, which she appreciated with the heat haunting her every day since the beginning of summer. One would think a hospital would make use of an air conditioner, but no, they don’t. If they were, it was turned on so low Carmen never noticed anything.
She brought her index finger to her lips, hovering slightly above them, to sign she would keep it a secret. “Don’t worry. I won’t tell anyone about this. Your secrets are totally safe with me, as long as you keep mine safe too.” she replied, tilting her head to the side. Her long, full, wavy hair dropped to the side as she did so. Chocolate colored eyes drifted away to the other side of her view and she nodded. “I used to have a spot like this at the public park in our neighborhood until someone stole it from me.” she said and let out a soft laugh, thinking back to the first time she met Az.
“Hmm… a certain someone? Can a woman not dress up for herself?” Carmen joked but pondered, resting her chin on the palms of her hands. Her eyes sparkled at the thought and a chuckle escaped her lips. “Maybe, maybe not. I do have a date tomorrow. It’s my day off so I gotta enjoy what’s left of having a social life with all the social distancing going on. Tall, young, dark curly hair, ocean eyes, EMT.” she said swooning a little and winked, red lips arched into a bright smile. She may or may not have flirted with the guy whenever he came to the ER bringing a patient, but it was only today he actually asked her out.
“How’s work going? Any interesting news I should hear about?” she asked, grabbing her bag and fishing out a mirror. She opened the small, foldable pocket mirror and looked at her eyes, wiping away some smudged eyeliner with her hand.
