outbreak
/ˈaʊtbreɪk/ zero /ˈzɪərəʊ/
a sudden occurrence of something unwelcome, such as war or disease. number, no quantity or number; nought; the figure 0.
Should she have been going to this event? Absolutely not. Logically speaking, this was a terrible idea. There was even talk around the city hall about how stupid it was that there was going to even be such an event during this time. Tyler had even made a few scoffs towards the idea of 'could you imagine being that dumb and going' comments. Because she could imagine it. And she was desperate to feel some sort of normality after everything that had happened. It was HALLOWEEN for damn sake. Let them have their fun. If they were willing to get sick, then just make sure they quarantined afterwards. She had enough vacation time to ensure that she could have the next few weeks off just to be responsible.
So the blonde hair, blue eyed woman dressed in her dark fairy costume and made her way down to the warehouse district. Dodging the patrols that were out, hiding in the shadows when she needed to, before she arrived at the address that she had seen printed on a flyer. She could hear the halloween soundtrack playing softly behind the door, screams and other ghoulish sounds. She wasn't afraid per se, but she definitely didn't want to be going in by herself. So after she watched the first small group disappear, she looked around to see who the next group or person was to come up to the door. The moment they were in her sights, a smile would break onto her lips. Until she realized, that she was looking at a familiar face. "Well I'll be damned, Collin Vandyne." She mused with a small smirk.
[attr="class","CONTENT"] One would think as a virologist and son of Vandyne Corps. he should know better than to attend an illegal mass gathering which could most likely turn into a super spreading event, but Collin wasn't the type to say no to a party. Was he supposed to be here? No. Did he care? Negative. If he ended up getting caught he could just buy his way out. Money may not solve all problems but it does solve a lot of them. But yikes was probably Collins' first thought as he arrived at the shabby looking, nasty smelling, old warehouse. He shook his head, wondering why didn't he know about this earlier because he would have definitely sponsored a better location, maybe some security, and at least a decent DJ.
He found his way to the run-down building, standing in front of the entrance to take a look around. He came alone but he was more than certain that he wasn't going to leave alone. His eyes caught sight of two women dressed as Aphrodites, matching his Spartan attire. With his top shirtless it was slightly chilly but the cape was slung over his shoulder, covering at least half of it.
'I'll be damned, Collin Vandyne.'
Ending the conversation he had with the two women he turned around to see who had said his name."The one and only." he grinned as he turned around, raising both his arms in a grand gesture. "If this isn't Tyler Halen, angel of... death?" he questioned, asking himself if he had gotten her costume right or not, giving her a quick once over.
Tyler couldn’t help herself as he turned around, sporting that grin on his face that she knew oh so well. Her eyes ran down him and the back up, admiring his costume of course. The two had grown up in the same circle. They weren’t the best of friends or anything, but they had enjoyed spending some charity events together over the years. Or at least some good conversations in between meeting with others for the family business. He was handsome, charming, really almost like the male version of herself. “I was hoping for more a dark fae but I can be your angel of darkness if you’d like.” She laughed, stepping closer without actually invading his space.
She glanced up at the warehouse and then back to him. “Sad that this is what we have to settle for now a days.” She mused, blue eyes almost rolling as she spoke. It was quite pathetic. Maybe she should have just thrown a party at her penthouse condo. Would have had better food and music, and a lot less trouble. A place to let people crash after the party instead of hoping everyone gets home on their own here. “Care to accompany me?” She asked, waving a hand towards the door that his two Aphrodites were slipping into.
[attr="class","CONTENT"] 'I was hoping for more a dark fae but I can be your angel of darkness if you’d like.'
Collin joined in on her laughter. He missed this lightheartedness and the fun. This wasn't the best party he had ever attended but it would suffice - at least for now. "Either looks good on you. Sprinkle some of that fairy dust on me!" he hollered, "May our wishes come true."
He brushed his cape aside to free one of his arms, moving the fake gladius that rested on his hip in its sheath to the other side and then offering his arm to Tyler. "Who would say no?" Collin said with a wink, a confident smirk playing on his lips.
He led the way in, entering the darkness as the door shut behind them, erasing all lights from the outside. He could hear the faint sound of music playing somewhere far in the back of the building, screams erupting in front of them. "So, Halen. What are you up to these days?"
Tyler laughed as his arms opened wide for her to dust him with her fairy powers. She smirked and made a dramatic motion with her hand as if she was throwing confetti into the air above him. "May all your darkest desires come true." She laughed. She was starting to wish that she had brought a wand or something of those sorts. But that wasn't really a fairy was it? Unless she was a dark fairy godmother. And that seemed to be taking it a step too far and sounded like just an item that would be lost easily during the night.
She gracefully walked forward and slipped her arm into the crook of his when he offered it. "Only a madman." she confirmed, as she followed his lead into the darkness. She shifted a little so she wasn't stepping on him, but kept close to his side so she wouldn't also hit anything around them. The daredevils in front of them were screaming like banshies made her scrunch up her nose in slight annoyance. Certainly this attraction wasn't that terrifying. Especially when you knew the whole point was to try and spook you. Right?
"Oh you know. Saving the world one translation at a time. Making deals, collected debts, earning favors." She grinned. She really loved when she had something on someone. To have a 'IOU' card in her back pocket because she never knew when she might need help from someone with a certain skill. "What about you? I can tell you've clearly kept up with your personal maintenance." She said, her hand squeezing his arm. This was always the banter, flirt a little but respected the hell out of the man.
[attr="class","CONTENT"] He embraced her invisible fairy dust with glee in his eyes. “Only a madman.” he agreed, Collin grinned brightly as she slipped her arm into his. “Mhm, my darkest desires you say.” he repeated after her, a low chortle following shortly afterward. They entered the haunted house, following after a duo of prom king and queen. He rolled his eyes, snorting as the guy in front of them starting screaming without even being inside the building. However, the couple was gone soon, leaving Collin and Tyler alone for the most part.
“I’m still and will always be fascinated by the number of languages you speak. The only phrase I know is voulez vous coucher avec moi.” he said, turning his gaze towards Tyler and giving her a more than a playful wink. He was smart, he definitely wasn’t a himbo, even though he could very much pass as one looks-wise.
Collin couldn’t help himself but flex his arm a little after she squeezed it. Nodding along as she talked. “Me? Hmm… I was thrown into exile by my dad. I just moved here… despite the virus. Maybe this isn’t exile after all. Now that I think about it, it sounds more like execution to me.” he spoke, a bitter laugh escaping his lips. “Landed a job at Prism. Of course. Our families are so tight-knit they couldn’t refuse to take me in.” he continued with a shrug as if it was the most normal thing in the world. Perhaps it was in theirs. Rich and influential people using their connections for benefits. It wasn't too out of the ordinary for someone like him or Tyler.
Tyler found her laughter falling from her easily. “You are incorrigible.” She smirked, watching the couple in front of them start acting like fools. She’s as pretty sure that this was going to be a cake walk for her. Things like this didn’t scare her. What did scare her were the real life things that could happen to them. Happen to the few that she actually held in high regards. At the mention of her knowledge of languages, she laughed a little. “ è allora un invito aperto?” She said into his ear.
They rounded into the first room as they spoke, and she raised a brow as a fake demon creature popped out to try and scare her. She didn’t so much as flinch at it, and if she did it was because of the shrieking yell that was accompanied by it. “Well I am sorry to hear about living in exile. But you seem to have landed on your feet rather well.” She offered, stepping over a fake bloodied limb on the ground. Her heel clipping on the hard ground under them. “Or you are very good at faking it at least.” She teased, flashing an impish grin up towards him as they wondered deeper into the haunted maze of rooms.
[attr="class","CONTENT"] Collin dropped his head slightly to the front, his chin almost touching the breastbone as he tried to think of the translation of her words. He knew it was Italian but he didn’t know what it meant. She could have said anything to him in response to his cheesy line. What if she just made fun of him? "Whatever you just said: my answer is yes." he responded, lifting his head again, bold eyes staring ahead of them.
He couldn’t help but chuckle at how courageous Tyler was. His hand had perhaps twitched a little at the jump scare and he was ready to swing his fist into its direction but he held himself back, knowing it was just another human in a costume. Collin ran his free hand through his light brown hair and shrugged. "Well, I guess having someone pull strings for me makes it a lot less complicated and easier. Perks of having money." he said, a soft hint of boasting in his voice. The perks of being rich and influential were the words he would have opted for if he was going to speak his mind at that moment. But either way, he knew Tyler would understand anyway.
His gaze flickered to the fake body part on the ground, making sure to support her in case she tripped. "Maybe you could give me a tour of the city some day, though, there's probably not much to see these days."
Blue eyes flashed to him, shining with mischief as he agreed to whatever she just said. She let out a small laugh, knowing he probably had no idea what she had just said to him. She could have easily asked if he liked mayonnaise on his sandwiches. Could've asked if he wanted to swap their halloween costumes for laughs. But she had chosen to stay on the topic of what he had said, which meant his yes could have just signed him up for all kinds of trouble. She let an delighted smirk stay on her face. "You have no idea what you just got yourself into." She flirted effortlessly.
She nodded her head. Money had a way of opening doors that others wouldn't even get a chance to breathe near. People like her and Collin were blessed in a lot of ways, but also cursed as they would not quite get to understand that struggle of life being unfair. That was not either of theirs faults. And Tyler certainly wasn't going to give it all away on her end. She did what she could, secretively, to help out others. Leaving 'anonymous' donations. But she would not give up her family right. She worked for what she had in a way. "It definitely helps. And makes life a bit more comfortable if you ask me." She told him.
She let him be a source of support as she stepped over the fake body part, giving his arm a light squeeze as she did so. "I'd love to. Maybe I can take the government car so we don't have to worry about sticking to the same boring streets you could see on your own." Perhaps some back stage passes, at least that was the way she looked at it. She gave him a wink as they made their way through the next room.
